I don’t really like my town. Every summer, too many tourists come here, so there are too many cars in the streets, and that means there’s too much noise. There aren’t enough places for teenagers to go, either. There are lots of shops but there are always too many people in them! And most of the clothes shops are for old people – there aren’t enough shops for young people like me!

The Giving Tree

Մի անգամ գյուղում մի ծերունի կար Ջերի անունով։ Նա մի քանի տարի չէր տեսել որդուն և ցանկանում էր հանդիպել իր որդուն, ով ապրում էր քաղաքում: Նա սկսեց իր ճամփորդությունը և եկավ մի քաղաք, որտեղ իր որդին աշխատում էր և մնում։ Նա գնաց այն տեղը, որտեղից վաղուց նամակներ էր ստանում։ Երբ դուռը թակեց, հուզվեց և ուրախությունից ժպտաց՝ հանդիպելով որդուն։ Ցավոք, դուռը բացեց մեկ ուրիշը։ Ջերին հարցրեց. «Կարծում եմ, որ Թոմասը պետք է մնա այս վայրում»: Մարդն ասաց. «Ո՛չ։ Նա լքել էր տեղն ու տեղափոխվել այլ վայր»։ Ջերին հիասթափված էր և միայն մտածում էր, թե ինչպես հանդիպի իր որդուն:

Նա սկսեց քայլել փողոցով, և հարևանները հարցրին Ջերիին. «Դու փնտրում ես Թոմասին»: Ջերին պատասխանեց՝ գլխով անելով։ Հարևանները Ջերիին տվեցին Թոմասի ներկայիս հասցեն և գրասենյակի հասցեն։ Ջերին շնորհակալություն հայտնեց նրանց և սկսեց դեպի այն ճանապարհը, որը տանելու է իր որդուն։ Ջերին գնաց գրասենյակ և ընդունարանի մոտ հարցրեց. «Կարո՞ղ եք ինձ ասել, թե որտեղ է Թոմասը այս գրասենյակում»: Ընդունարանի աշխատակիցը հարցրեց. Ջերին քաղաքավարիորեն պատասխանեց՝ ասելով. «Ես նրա հայրն եմ»: Ընդունարանի աշխատակցուհին ասաց. Ջերրին մի պահ սպասի և զանգահարեց Թոմասին և նույնը փոխանցեց։ Թոմասը ցնցված էր և ընդունարանի աշխատակցին ասաց, որ հորն անմիջապես տնակ ուղարկի:

Ջերին մտավ խցիկ և երբ տեսավ Թոմասին, նրա աչքերը լցվեցին։ Թոմասը ուրախացավ հորը տեսնելով։ Նրանք որոշ ժամանակ պարզ զրույց ունեցան, իսկ հետո Ջերին հարցրեց Թոմասին. Մայրիկը ցանկանում է տեսնել քեզ: Կարո՞ղ ես ինձ հետ տուն գալ»:

Թոմասը պատասխանեց. «Ոչ հայր: Ես չեմ կարող գալ. Ես շատ զբաղված եմ աշխատելով իմ հաջողության համար, և դժվար է կառավարել արձակուրդը, քանի որ իմ ձեռքերը լի են սթրեսային աշխատանքով»: Ջերին պարզ ժպտաց և ասաց. «Լավ: Դուք կարող եք անել ձեր աշխատանքը: Այսօր երեկոյան ես կվերադառնամ մեր գյուղ»: Թոմասը հարցրեց. «Դու կարող ես մի քանի օր մնալ ինձ հետ: Խնդրում եմ»։ Ջերին մի պահ լռությունից հետո պատասխանեց. «Տղաս. Դուք զբաղված եք ձեր գործերով։ Ես չեմ ուզում ձեզ անհարմարություն պատճառել կամ բեռ դառնալ ձեզ համար»: Շարունակելով. «Հուսով եմ, որ եթե երբևէ հնարավորություն ունենայի նորից հանդիպել ձեզ, ես երջանիկ կլինեի»: Նա հեռացավ տեղից։

Մի քանի շաբաթ անց Թոմասը զարմացավ, թե ինչու է իր հայրը երկար ժամանակ մենակ եկել, նա վատ էր զգում իր հոր հետ տարօրինակ վերաբերմունքի համար: Նա իրեն մեղավոր է զգում դրա համար և մի քանի օրով արձակուրդ է վերցրել և գնացել գյուղ՝ հորը հանդիպելու։ Երբ նա գնաց այն վայրը, որտեղ ծնվել ու մեծացել է, տեսել է, որ ծնողներն այնտեղ չեն։ Նա ցնցված հարցրեց հարևաններին. «Ի՞նչ է պատահել այստեղ: Իմ ծնողները պետք է այնտեղ լինեն: Որտեղ են նրանք հիմա?” Հարևանները տվել են այն վայրի հասցեն, որտեղ բնակվում են նրա ծնողները։

Թոմասը շտապեց տեղն ու նկատեց, որ այդ վայրը գերեզմանոցի է նման։ Թոմասի աչքերը լցվեցին արցունքներով և սկսեցին դանդաղ քայլել դեպի այդ վայրը։ Նրա հայրը՝ Ջերին նկատեց Թոմասին հեռու հեռավորության վրա և թափահարեց ձեռքը՝ նրա ուշադրությունը հրավիրելու համար։ Թոմասը տեսավ հորը և սկսեց վազել և գրկեց նրան։

Ջերին հարցրեց. «Ինչպե՞ս ես»: և շարունակեց. «Ինչպիսի՜ անակնկալ է քեզ այստեղ տեսնելը: Ես չէի սպասում, որ դուք կգաք այս վայր»: Թոմասը ամաչեց և գլուխը ցած պահեց։ Ջերին ասաց. «Ինչու ես քեզ վատ զգում: Վատ բան պատահե՞լ է»։ Թոմասը պատասխանեց. «Ոչ հայր», – շարունակեց. «Պարզապես ես երբեք չգիտեի, որ կտեսնեմ քեզ այս դիրքում մեր գյուղում»:

Ջերին ժպտաց և ասաց. «Ես վարկ էի վերցրել, երբ տեղափոխվեցիր քոլեջի քաղաք՝ քո ուսման համար վճարելու համար, հետո նորից, երբ նոր մեքենա էիր ուզում, բայց ֆերմերային վնասի պատճառով չկարողացա վարկը մարել։ . Այսպիսով, ես մտածեցի մոտենալ ձեզ օգնության համար, բայց դուք շատ զբաղված էիք և ճնշված ձեր աշխատանքով: Ես պարզապես չէի ուզում ծանրաբեռնել ձեզ այս խնդրով և լռեցի, և ես ստիպված էի բաց թողնել մեր տունը վարկը մարելու համար»:
